The Critical Missing Piece…Self Care

Posted: April 22nd, 2011 | No Comments »

Nutritionist/yoga teacher Diana Cullum – Dugan (www.namastenutrition.net ) asked me what I do for self care. To catch a break, a mid-winter January trip to Belize offering a practice management course for health practitioners and daily yoga classes called my name. The program was beautifully crafted by acupuncturists Stefanie Dilbero and Kristen Porter. Culturally, Belize is extremely diverse. Inspired by the beauty of Belize with butterflies and majestic teak forests, sounds of the dense tropical forest (howling monkeys and toucans), many different languages the natives spoke, meeting of local healers, camaraderie of other acupuncturists and nutritionist/yoga teacher Diana Cullum-Dugan, and the experience of horseback riding and hikes, I felt renewed. Dining with new friends for a week, I learned to appreciate the menus we had to choose from and felt energized after every meal! Continue reading »

Brooklyn Body

Brooklyn Body, run and owned by personal trainer Vahram Shishmanian, better known as “V”, is where I began practicing acupuncture and teaching MELT/Pilates. Since he was young, V has loved to play basketball. His love of the game drove him to improve his fitness level. As his fitness started to progress, he realized how much he enjoyed working out, and studied ways to feel better and be healthier. Wanting to help others reach their full fitness potential, he started learning newer and safer ways of exercising.

Officially opening its doors in late 2007, Brooklyn Body has become a very successful business over the years. However, getting started was not an easy task. V did not want his gym to be the type of place that felt intimidating and looked unwelcoming. Unlike most gyms, where their members are isolated from one another in different “sections,” Brooklyn Body is a training facility, which allows others to interact and work with one another. Testimonials

  • "Christine worked with me once a week for six months as part of our integrative musculoskeletal medicine program. After medical assessment, Christine was part of a comprehensive treatment plan that included medications, exercise, acupuncture, and bodywork. Patients consistently commented on her bedside skills & several had marked improvement after Christine’s treatments. What impressed me the most was her caring and advocacy on patients’ behalf; Christine never stops looking for additional ways to make her patients better."

  • "Living in New York City I have found that when it comes to health care there are the best of the best and the worst of the worst and then there is all that in between where we spend months and lots of dollars searching for relief. After another injury to my right shoulder the dilemma was to find the best of the best to treat the ailment with minimal waste of my time and money.

Finally after lots of complaining and networking I was recommended to an acupuncturist. And I consider Christine Marcarian as one of the best. Besides being exceptionally knowledgeable about her craft she is grounded, wholesome, caring as well as very nurturing and accessible. My healing began after the first visit. I highly recommend Christine if you are looking for the best!"

  • "Christine is phenomenal! I saw her weekly during my performance of Macbeth in NYC. Whatever ache, pain, stiffness, or fatigue I had by the time I got off of her table, I felt calm, centered, without pain and always in a far better place to perform. She has an intuition that is uncanny. I cannot recommend her highly enough."

  • "I went to Christine for terrible migraines. Before trying acupuncture, I exhausted all forms of treatment with the neurologist, chiropractor and various other modalities, some of which helped but just temporarily. After several months, I have never felt so good. Not only do I feel better, I look better and am much happier."

  • "Over a period of years now and for very different symptoms-sciatica, migraines, stress, and various side effects from cancer radiation treatment. I have been the grateful beneficiary of Christine’s expertise and impressive touch.

She has been of immeasurable help to me. I would unqualifiedly recommend her to anyone seeking highly trained, experienced, professional, and compassionate care."
